EPCA

Montreal, October 21, 2026 – The English Parents’ Committee Association of Quebec (EPCA) extends its congratulations to Joël Arseneau on his appointment as Quebec’s Minister of Education and looks forward to establishing a constructive working relationship focused on student success, well-being, and the future of public education.

As a new government takes office, EPCA emphasizes the importance of ensuring that parents have a meaningful voice in shaping education policies and decisions that directly affect their children.

“Education is one of the most important investments we can make in Quebec’s future. As Minister Arseneau begins his mandate, we welcome the opportunity to work together to address the challenges facing our schools and ensure that every student has the support and opportunities they need to succeed,” said Katherine Korakakis, President of EPCA. “Parents bring valuable perspectives, firsthand experiences, and practical solutions to the table. Their voices must be part of the conversation from the very beginning.”

EPCA believes that strengthening Quebec’s public education system requires a sustained commitment to predictable funding, timely access to educational and specialized services, and meaningful parental participation in school governance.

For English-speaking families, protecting access to quality English-language public education and recognizing the distinct realities of the English-language school system must also remain priorities.

With broader discussions about the future of education anticipated under the new government, EPCA welcomes opportunities for consultation and dialogue. However, the Association stresses that addressing immediate challenges facing students, families, and schools must remain a priority alongside longer-term reforms.

“Our shared responsibility is to ensure that decisions made today create better outcomes for students tomorrow,” added Korakakis. “That means listening to families, supporting educators, respecting the role of local school communities, and building an education system that responds to the diverse needs of every learner.”

EPCA also extends its congratulations to the newly appointed education critics and looks forward to engaging with representatives from all political parties on issues affecting Quebec’s students and families.

The Association hopes to meet with Minister Arseneau in the near future to share the priorities of English-speaking parents and explore opportunities for meaningful collaboration.
